Audi is hard at work on a pair of new TT models that are bound to give a major uptick in performance to the attractive German coupe. Spotted in both hardtop and convertible configurations, the RS varients of the TT are expected to produce as much as 350 horsepower, transmitted to the pavement through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The new cars have been fitted with lower and fatter front spoilers, as well as bigger air intakes to keep the high performance machine breathing freely. Oval exhaust tips, a standard feature on all of Audi’s RS line cars, are also in evidence here. Both cars have also seen upgrades in the wheel/tire package, with larger rubber on hand to offer adequate grip for the huge power. The TT-RS coupe also seems to have been fitted with impressive ceramic composite brakes, likely optional equipment on both cars. Scroll down below to read the spy shooter’s own words or check out the cars in our galleries above. Let us introduce the new Audi TT-RS.This is going to be the top of the ...

Engineers at BMW are busy cooking up an all-electric version of the effervescent Mini, a car that should help the automaker off-set its less conscientious offerings from the likes of the M motorsports division and Rolls-Royce. Such an EV will come in handy when trying make the grade for upcoming European Union CO2 standards, as well as regulations coming on the books for California in 2012. The electric Mini may look very similar (re: almost exactly the same) as the current cars, but can be fairly easily distinguished by two things; the slightly misleading “HYBRID” sticker on the side, and the total absence of offal-spewing tailpipes. Have a closer look at the super-green Mini in our gallery above or read the shooter’s words down below. Mini goes electric……. BMW and Mini are working on a full electric version of the Mini to help them lower the total CO2 emissions for the brand. With not so CO2 friendly brands as Rolls Royce and the M models in the portfolio all help is needed to fulfill the new EU standards ...

Hoping to get the public whipped into a froth for the car’s debut at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford has taken to leaving muled up versions of its 2010 Mustang all over the greater Detroit area. A new Mustang GT was recently spotted in the parking lot of a strip mall, allowing an armature spy photographer to take these super clear images of the car. The mule shows off a set of new five-spoke alloys that Ford had previously tipped on the Mustang’s own website, as well as the new front end as previewed by the Giuigiaro concept of 2006. Have a closer look at the 2010 Mustang GT in our gallery above. + Mustang Evolution: Close Up 2010 Mustang Spyshots (via Autoblog)

It seems that Acura is hard at work on a luxury CUV that would dice with the likes of BMW’s X6 for premium market dollars. The size and very general shape of this tented-up test mule lead our spy shooter to speculate that the Acura could have the same sort of coupe-like roof line that the X6 inhabits, though we’re going to need a lot of that cladding stripped away before we can say for sure. The engine lineup for this intriguing crossover is likely to include Acura’s current 3.7-liter V-6 unit, and if rumors of the automaker developing its first ever V-8 are true, that powerplant would be a natural add for the new vehicle as well. One interesting side note to these images is the fact of their locality, taken at Germany’s Nürburgring track. Testing at the ring could indicate that Acura may be coming to European shores for the first time since its inception, instead of wearing the more plebian Honda badges that Old World drivers are accustomed to. Scroll down below to read the shooter’s own notes. The X6 fr ...

The eagle-eyed Swedes over at Trollhattan Saab have managed to catch what would appear to be the new 9-3X out in the wild, completely unburdened by camouflage. The new crossover is pretty much exactly what you’d expect from the current 9-3 design language, adding skid plates and a few inches of ride height to what looks otherwise like the 9-3 Sportcombi wagon. With the new 9-4X currently in the product development pipeline—with a far more streamlined design according to the latest spy shots we’ve seen of that CUV—it will be interesting to see just how far Saab is willing to push its small premium crossover offerings. Click through the link below for a closer (still low res) look at the 9-3X mule. + TrollhattanSaab.net

We've now driven about 250 miles on our way from Chicago to Memphis in the Q7 3.0 TDI and things are going well. We haven't made any attempts to draft behind eighteen-wheelers or do any other sort of fuel-saving techniques, and we've been able to observe fuel economy numbers of 28.6 miles per gallon. This seems to be in line with some of the higher MPG numbers that the Q7 groups achieved on the first wave of the event. We'll be sure to give more updates as we continue on with the Audi Mileage Marathon, and hopefully the NextAutos team can win the first place rank for fuel consumption in the Q7.

We’ve been handed what appear to be the cleanest images yet of Nissan’s latest Z car, the sharply styled 370Z. Though previous leaks have given us a pretty good idea of what the 370 was all about, this last batch has us counting the days to the car’s probable debut at the L.A. Auto Show. Photographers at CarPix managed to grab a lone interior image in this set as well, showing off a cabin that seems to have a higher level of surface refinement, as well as a more streamlined user interface. The car has got a paddle-shifted automatic transmission that will likely be a version of the system found on Nissan’s GT-R. Check out our full gallery of images above.

After a lovely dinner at B.B. King's in downtown Memphis and a good rest, we're back on the road with the Audi Mileage Marathon. Today's drive will take us from Memphis to Dallas by way of Little Rock, where we will stop for lunch. So far, our Q7 has averaged fuel economy numbers of 28.8 miles per gallon. One other car got the same readings, so we're tied for best fuel economy. Our average speed, however, is a bit below the curve. We've averaged 60 miles per hour thus far, though our attempts at drafting behind semis and using the adaptive cruise control have indeed aided our MPGs. As for the other cars, the leading A4 is averaging 44.8 miles per gallon at 61 mph, the leading Q5 is averaging 38.5 mpg at 59 mph, and the (only) A3 is getting readings of 41.1 mpg at 59 mph. Stay tuned to see how these numbers change throughout the rest of our drive.
