Warriors swingman Kelenna Azubuike sat out with a sprained left knee Friday against the Bulls. Point guard C.J. Watson started in Azubuike's place, with Stephen Jackson nominally moving from guard to forward.
Rose has big second half before injury
Derrick Rose scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half of the Bulls' 115-110 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday night. Rose sat out the final 73 seconds after injuring his hip in a collision with Corey Maggette. He stayed on the bench and stood to cheer his teammates in the final seconds. "Man, it was a sharp pain that was there for a long time, but I'm all right now," Rose said. "I've just got to ice it and massage it tomorrow. I'm not missing (Sunday's game at Denver)." Rose also had five assists and three rebounds as he went 12-of-19 from the field.
Udrih goes crashing onto floor
Kings point guard Beno Udrih went crashing to the floor and left Friday's game against the Trail Blazers after taking an elbow by Greg Oden late in the third quarter. Although not seriously injured, Udrih did not play again. Udrih had just seven points, six assists and one rebound in 23 minutes.
Legace survives late goal for OT win
Blues G Manny Legace stopped 26 shots during a 3-2 overtime win Friday against the Ducks. Anaheim appeared to have momentum after Scott Niedermayer capitalized on a wild scramble at the end of regulation, scoring his third goal of the season with only 0.9 seconds remaining. The puck slid between Legace's pads after the Ducks' Corey Perry, perhaps pushed by a Blues' player, fell over backward over the goalie. "I was just fishing for the puck," Niedermayer said. "It just happened to come to my stick."
Giguere defeated in OT Friday
Lee Stempniak scored an unassisted goal with 2:21 left in the extra period to give the Blues a 3-2 victory Friday. Goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere didn't have a good look at Stempniak's shot to the short side, not with 6-foot-6, 214-pound defenseman Chris Pronger in the way. "I think Pronger was coming off the bench and caught a little bit flat-footed," Stempniak said. "So I just tried to use him as a screen. It was a great win." Giguere complimented Stempniak for turning the Ducks' numbers against them. The winner, a shot from the left circle, deflected off the goalie's stick. "I think he used Prongs in a very effective way," Giguere said. "You know, I would still like to see that shot again. But you can't go back." Giguere made 25 saves in the loss and allowed two power-play scores.
Berglund sits out Friday's game
Blues C Patrik Berglund did not play Friday against the Ducks after injuring his groin in practice Thursday. He remains questionable heading into Saturday against the Wild.
Kariya still nursing hip flexor
Blues LW Paul Kariya missed his sixth game with a hip flexor injury Friday against the Ducks and is also not expected to play Saturday at Minnesota.
Smith hands coach his first win
Lightning goalie Mike Smith made 34 saves during a 4-1 win Friday against the Predators and gave Rick Tocchet his first career win as a head coach. Smith allowed just one goal in the first period before shutting out Nashville the rest of the way. He made 15 saves in the second period and nine in the third.
